I initially used very mild steel as a bracket for the RC51-style tail light. Vibrations and wear led to the tab on the bracket breaking at the spot weld. Perhaps next time I would weld all the way around the tab. That might just make the tab break off at the top of the bracket?<\/p>\n
Instead of welding another mild steel tab, I used a piece of thicker gauge aluminum. Can\u2019t weld it to steel but I can paint the two metals to avoid galvanic corrosion and bolt them together. <\/p>\n
If I were to do it again, to save weight I\u2019d probably make the entire bracket out of aluminum, and design an \u2018A\u2019 shaped bracket that was a single piece. Lighter, stronger and prettier.
