BTS- Nerd Out w/junky

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to nerd out for a minute. I was just doing a quick fact check about something I heard on the Yammie Noob podcast.

While pouring over model names and model numbers I stumbled upon a hand rendered parts diagram. Then I started to dive into my Honda archive, and realized that all of the early parts (and some repair) catalogs were illustrated by hand.

BY HAND

Like they used to do in the really old days! It reminds me that every part of motorcycles used to be a craft, from riding to design, repair -and in my case- even repair manuals.

I love the Benly tank with the Honda wing logo that was obviously hand drawn. Compare it to the new rendered logos and illustrations.

I’m glad that I don’t have to draw stuff by hand, even though I do free-hand stuff now and then. But it’s cool to find old manuals that were created by artists who actually made prints using old drafting tables and graph paper and vellum or tracing paper to do what is now done with a mouse and drawing program.

Pretty cool.

Later toot butts.
