Howdy all…
It has been brought to my attention that some folks might not know what a Carnival of Speed is…or what benefit a Classic Track Day could be to them. So I am gonna lay it all out right here…details on what to expect, gear requirements, times, etc. So check it out:
Classic Track Day (CTD) was born from vintage racers needing an outlet to run their slow, old bikes at the track. CTD welcomes old bikes, small displacement bikes, air cooled modern bikes, & pre-1990 superbikes bikes. We also love odd bikes! Harley Dynas, BMW GS1200s, Ducati Diavels, fully bagged cop bikes, dual sports! Pretty much anything you won’t see at a “typical” track day. If you’re cool and obey the rules, we allow any modern bike into the mix, after a vetting from myself. To date we boast a new track rider turnout of over 20% at every one of our events. And once a year we combine forces with Apex Assassins, a super cool track day organization out of Las Vegas, to present the CARNIVAL OF SPEED!
The Carnival of Speed aims to make sure that riders of all disciplines get an opportunity to rip out at Willow Springs Raceway. This year we present:
SATURDAY
8am-4pm – BIG WILLOW Track Day
4pm-7pm – MINI BIKE MAYHEM
7pm-10pm – MOTO DRAGS on the Big Willow Straight
SUNDAY
8am-4pm – STREETS OF WILLOW Track Day
4pm-? – MINI BIKE MAYHEM
4pm – Dark – FLAT TRACK FUN at Walt James Stadium
But, we haven’t forgotten our moto cross & off road bike friends. Y’all can bring your moto and discover the hills of Willow. There are a ton of trails in the area and lots of spots to get lost in while we burn up the pavement. Then y’all can come back and join us for some fun for the evening parties!
FOLLOWING IS A BREAK DOWN OF EACH EVENT:
SATURDAY
BIG WILLOW TRACK DAY: $150/per rider
-Full Gear Needed: one or two piece leathers, gauntlet gloves, over the ankle boots, full face helmet…NEW RIDERS CAN GET COMPLIMENTARY GEAR FROM ALPINESTARS…CONTACT ME
-Four Groups / 15 minute sessions
1: Fastest (Modern & Vintage)
2V: Fast Vintage (Vintage & Modern Classics Only)
2M: Fast Modern (Modern Bikes Only)
3: Fast (Modern & Vintage / Beginners-New To The Track)
Gates open 6am
Tech & Registration open 6:30am
Mandatory Riders Meeting 7:15am
Track Goes Hot 8am
Lunch Noon-1pm:
-Taste of the Track: $20 per rider: Do a few laps on Big Willow in your street clothes. 2.5 miles of fun! All bikes welcome!
-Sidecar Taxi Rides: $20 per rider: See if you have what it takes to be a passenger on a real sidecar rig for 3 laps of Big Willow. Full racing attire required. Loaner suits available!
Track Day Ends 4pm
MINI BIKE MAYHEM
-helmet suggested…a pie pan could work. bonus for riding in shorts or bikini.
Starting as soon as we cool off from the track day, Reckless Riders will be on hand to rock your world with mini bike challenges. They will be bringing their real deal tug-o-war rig to see who can be the ultimate tugger! (See more here: https://www.facebook.com/recklessridersllc) Bring your own mini bike for other fun games, including the classic slow race, water balloon gauntlet, circle of death, & more! The more the merrier for this crowd pleasing carnival attraction! Free to play, just bring an attitude for camaraderie & craziness.
MOTO DRAG RACING: $25 per rider
-Full face helmet, leather jacket, boots & gloves required
Registration & tech: 5pm
Drags start at 7pm & end at 10pm
Grudge racing…challenge your buddy to the 1/4 mile. Challenge yourself to beat your best time. Full rig with starting lights & timing. Paper slip given after each pass. Run as many times as you want until 10pm!
SATURDAY NIGHT PARTY
Starting at 4pm:
Cash bar & bbq
Two live bands!
Bench racing and weirdness!
Get comfy, rock with your friends, and watch the maniacs drag the Big Willow straight away under the lights! Go watch the sunset from the Budweiser Balcony…get lost in the hills and sleep with a coyote! Do whatever the heck you want! Willow Springs summer nights are the BEST!
Free camping…non riders & spectators welcome!

STREETS OF WILLOW TRACK DAY: $150/per rider

MINI BIKE MAYHEM – IN THE DIRT!
-helmet suggested…a colander will be fine. bonus for riding upside down.
We will run the minis in the mud…at Walt James Stadium! More of the same as Saturday, just more MUD! The water truck will definitely come in handy when making obstacle challenges. Of course we will have to see a few laps of the baby bikes rocking the most awesome flat track course in SoCal.
WALT JAMES FLAT TRACK FUN: $50 per rider
-Appropriate riding gear required
Registration & tech 3pm
Riding starts 4pm & ends at dark
The fine folks at Willow Springs are graciously allowing us to play on one of the best 3/8 mile banked dirt tracks in SoCal, Walt James Stadium. This track is only opened once a year for Eddie Mulder’s annual event…so we thank Chris Huth & the WSIR staff for giving us an afternoon to play. Groups will be sorted out when we see who shows up. Riding will only be interrupted for mini bike weirdness. Get in a ton of laps with your buddies and crack a cold one with us once it’s too dark to ride.
