Flat Track Season!

I can’t believe I didn’t post anything here bout the IV League Flat Track events… what the!?
Creative-Riding was present at the Tribute to Ascot IV League Flat Track Season Opener on January 9th. The weather was a frigid 60 degrees, and there was some drizzle in the air. That’s nearly arctic conditions for San Diego.

The action was pretty tight, especially in the pro heats. The Hooligan class was really what we were there for, and it didn’t disappoint. We saw the Indians at the Superprestigio of the Americas, but their crisp exhaust notes were drowned in the Las Vegas fanfare, At Del Mar, they rang out load and crisp. They sound so cool in a class that has been primarily dominated by Harley-Davidsons.

The Hooligan class has also been gaining steam as of late, and there were five waves of Hooligan heat races. Yeah, I said five. They were divided into Hooligan A-E, and after the alphabet soup was sorted,  it still led to a pretty big main. The Hooligans also closed the show with a “lights-out” race. That was actually pretty cool, and you couldn’t tell who was winning, but I don’t think anyone cared much. It was more seat time at best, and it was like a phycho-motor-disco at worst.

The moto-joust was not quite the spectacle that I had hoped, but YouTube confirmed that they had figured it out and adjusted it for the next day’s event. That show also featured Moto Limbo, where racers try to slide as low as possible under the ol’ Limbo Stick. It’s one of my favorite exhibitions of skill.

Be sure to catch the event on the 6th. It’s a celebration of Women that Ride, and it’s sure to be a hit.
