I am halfway done polishing a turd
C.K. Wiggins Esq sent a 50cc Honda my way a few months ago. I got it diagnosed and torn down at that time, but had no extra time to throw at it.
About a month ago, I soaked the cylinder and head overnight in coffee cans filled with CLR, and ordered some honing stones.
This weekend I finally made time to get the little shit worked on. I went out to the garage at about 20:00 and got the gaskets peeled off. I lightly scrubbed the crud off of the valves and combustion chamber with a brass brush. I brushed the scale out of the cylinder as well, making sure to use a tungsten brush that left deep gouges in the cylinder walls. I then honed the cylinder with the new stones, but followed it using a hand mixer with rocks from the garden taped to the end.
After that- a fresh install of the new gaskets, fuck with the timing chain and sprocket while putting the head back on, and button her up. (Luckily I had labeled all the bolts or left them with the parts that they mounted, or I would have been in some deep shit)
Lastly, I just had to get the assembled engine off the workbench and into the bike. That was pretty easy, and once the carb and exhaust were fitted, I did what I haven’t been trying to do for months… (After that, I gave her a kick to see if it sounded remotely better.)
Next will be new grips, new seat cover (maybe) and fixing Wiggins’ wiring job.
