Preston Petty
I mentioned Preston on the last show. He’s basically the person responsible for plastic motorcycle fenders.
Especially dirt bikes.
He was a quiet guy, and sorta peculiar. The way I am – productive in the PM rather than the AM like most normal people. He was also very humble, and you’d never know he was a genius just talking to him or seeing him hover around the pits in his trademark blue coveralls (something he’d been wearing regularly since the 60s)
I am deeply saddened by his passing and wish I had pressed harder for an interview with him prior to 2020. Aside from being a humble genius, he was also very reclusive and hard to find unless you were a close friend.
Anyways, skip down to the second article PRESTON PETTY: Computer Man Meets Plastic Monster and read about this pioneer of CNC and Injection Molding. Although I will never get the chance to talk with him now, he is still a legend in the MC community and you can hear vicariously through others what it was like to spend a day with Preston Petty.
