Ordinary riders doing extraordinary things

WIP-

Hey ya’ll,

Junky here. Been a while since I posted up here, so here goes.

This week was crazy at work, and with rain/snowmageddon in full assault against California it enhanced the feeling of dread. However…

I was able to make it out into the garage a bit this week, at the expense of the podcast (and working out).

Although it can be tough to maintain research and fitness and 5 active projects, it is happening little by little. By 2035 I should be back in shape. By this week I should have 2-3 shows in progress, and by May I should have Paul Smith’s VFR at the Californian.

And maybe the Bike Shed Motor Co and the local Warhammer Cafe.

I have been reluctant to post my progress on these hand-sculpted fairings because the project has been start-stop-rethink-start-stop for two years. You heard me.. two years.

I have made about 3-4 front fairings, a chopped windscreen, 2 sets of side fairings, and even an upper seat cover & 2 belly pans (before Paul brought the OG belly pan and seat cowl up last year? No 2021?)

I have also tried to make a few videos, but the data was corrupted and the files ruined. All the stopping to film or discuss the process -gone.

So, even though this pic shows an almost finished apocalypse fairing compared to one covered in Bondo (yes the actual brand) and getting body work finished, it is also the tail end of a project that has been in the making for a couple of years now.

If I worked full time at a shop like I used to, this would have been a three week project at most.

This is why I have always fully appreciated DIY show bikes. I know they take months or years to build, compared to weeks by a dealership or pro builder like Zach Ness or Roland Sands.

Enjoy the before and almost-after. Keep ya posted on the full thing.
