You have a call from an inmate.

Ordinary riders doing extraordinary things

You have a call from an inmate.

The following recording took place on the evening of April 29th, 2020. It was an evening like most April evenings in southern California, calm and warm with a slight breeze from the eastern desert invading San Gabriel Valley to the west.

I was in the studio setting up Zencastr so that Chris Wiggins could call me. If I recall, it was a Wednesday, and we had pushed recording the podcast back by a day because we both had other things to do on Tuesday.

As luck would have it, Jae called me from the jail in Santa Paula, where she has been housed since going missing in January. Chris hadn’t contacted me yet, so I started recording Jae’s call.

I had been receiving regular calls from Jae, and had been tracking her case online for a while, but hadn’t heard anything for a couple weeks. I had also been asked a few questions by people in the Patreon-only Discord chat about how she was doing and what not. It was after that inquiry that I decided to check in and see how things were going.

I noticed that she had been released on bail a couple weeks before. That might be why I hadn’t heard from her. But I also noticed that there was another booking date. She was back in jail a day or two later.

I asked her about it in this call, and you will hear us just chattering about how things are. The audio is not great. I wasn’t expecting a phone call from her, and didn’t have the proper audio setup to take a call. So my phone is literally just held up to my microphone so that I could record and so that Wiggins could hear when he finally called in.

Also, Jae and Chris didn’t get along that well from the very beginning. Some of that might come across in this audio. It is unedited and not intended to be an interview or any future audio segment. It’s just raw audio of Jae checking in, and some Patrons have asked to hear how she’s doing.

Thank you,
Junky.
