Are you a ‘Biker’?

Ordinary riders doing extraordinary things

Are you a ‘Biker’?

Do you like the term ‘Biker’? If someone calls you a biker do you feel
like a badass or do you feel like you maybe skipped one too many showers?

One of the first Google Images that pops up…. uh, ok.

The question of ‘Bikers’ was brought up in an online discussion and it struck a chord with us at Creative-Riding. To be honest, we would be honored to be called super bikers (a reference to the racing series of the 1980s), but we would be taken aback if someone actually referred to us as ‘bikers’.
Like everything else, the media has mostly shaped the public’s image of the Biker. Shoot-outs, drug busts, and annual rallies are frequently reported as “biker” activities on the news and in the media. Yet when someone goes down in traffic or an accident is reported on the news, they always use the term ‘motorcyclist’.
There’s also the sexist connotation that is associated with the term Biker. Since most “1%er” clubs treat women as property or use them in positions of servitude, a biker is usually associated with being a man. Can there be women bikers too? (Of course we know the answer to this one – we’ve seen them out there).
This is the question that we ask, and only you can answer!
One final thought, is this term only an American stereotype?
Let us know.
