Flat Out Friday

Ordinary riders doing extraordinary things

Flat Out Friday

Back in March 2020 the U.S. of A. shut down for what was to become the better part of a year and a half. What started off a few weeks earlier as a few sick people on a cruise ship turned the Nation on its head pretty quickly. The timing was quite unfortunate…
All over the country, motorcycle season was just kicking off. Daytona Bike Week had already started, the Supercross season was a couple months in, and most importantly (at least for this article) thousands of motorcycle racers in Milwaukee were in the throes of the annual midwinter motorbike circus-come-festival when the inevitable happened. FLAT OUT FRIDAY WAS CANCELLED.
Racers from SoCal to SoCan* filled the city in throngs hoping to see some custom bikes and thrilling indoor flat track. The fact that there is plenty of beer and good times going on in Milwaukee on any given day doesn’t hurt either. (*I’m speculating that 1. There were southern Canadians there, 2. That Canadians call the south “SoCan”. Could be neither is true.)
Mini bikes races and parties went underground and swept across the city almost as fast as federal guidelines for pandemic mitigation. The only thing missing that year was the official Flat Out Friday event.
Well, after 2020 was officially off the books, 2021 was scrapped too – or so it seemed, as the winter came and went with not so much as a roll of toilet paper to spare between neighbors.
Rather than be let down, racers across the nation took this time to prep bikes, bench race, and hone techniques in preparation for the delayed-but-not-gone 2021 event.
