WANTED!!!! SR250 EXCITER STORIES!!!
HEY EVERYBODY!!!
Do you or a buddy have a Yamaha SR250? Wanna share your pics and stories?
I have a growing beef with a certain host of another motorcycle podcast from Santa Cruz who dissed a bullet proof little number that I happen to own one of. That is the SR250 Exciter from Yamaha. It’s true that they were only imported for 2 years in the States, and that in stock form they are homely at best.
However…. with a little creativity they can be cobbled together or redesigned with very little effort due to their minimal frame and bodywork.
I’ve never had a problem in 10+ years of owning mine. The only equipment I’ve had to replace is consumables and general maintenance items… the fork seals, carb cleanings, brake shoes and oil filters. When I first got it, the previous owner had broke a valve, and just ran it that way… that’s a testament to the bullet-proof quality of this motor!!
I want your stories, good and/or bad, happy and/or sad, highs and lows… There are several adventures that I’ve had on this bike. Rides that would not have been adventures if I were on the bigger bikes that I used to have.
I’ve also done things on this bike that i would never have attempted on most of my other bikes: flat track racing; riding to the inaugural Super Prestigio of the America’s in Las Vegas; off-road trail riding on street tires; trail and road riding in the National Forests.
Do you have similar stories? Have you dared to take your little blaster on roads where larger bikes fear to tread? Have you split lanes between cars that were so narrow that only mountain bikes dared to follow?
So have I, fellow tarmac warrior!! Let’s make our voices known and shout the glory of the ironically-named Exciter from the mountaintops!!!!
